    Thumbs up Harry's Soiree - 23rd February 2006

Following on from the obvious success of the recent TD soiree's, I thought I'd like to organise one of my own, at which time you will have an opportunity to meet & chat with me and my good lady in a slightly more formal setting.

The venue I have in mind is the Vertigo Restaurant at the Banyan Tree Hotel (BKK), I'm sure most of you will have at least heard of it, if not actually been there in the past.

Being the refined English gentleman that I am, I chose this venue in particular... because they don't admit 'riff-raff', which I'm sure most of you aren't.

If will be an all black-tie affair, the men will be required to wear either a tuxedo (please contact me if you don't have a tux. and need a rental) or a formal suit. The ladies (and cross dressers amongst you) should attire themselves in formal evening wear, a cocktail dress will suffice, but nothing slutty please.

Any takers? I need to get an idea of numbers well ahead of time, as
I need to pre-book the event as the Vertigo is an extremely popular venue.

Why have you chosen such a lo-so location? I would have thought you'd be more at home at Angels disco, in the janitors room .

'Harry' the jolly message board japer would indeed prefer either of those locations. But, this invitation is from 'Harry' the former public schoolboy & City gentleman, therefore I require a more suitable venue in keeping with the real me.

Now now, MeMock. There you go again misquoting me. Female companionship is something I leave to you chaps, but please make sure that whomever you bring knows how to handle a knife & fork and is comfortable with a wine glass.

It's customary to vote. Your lack of protocol doesn't bode well for you dining in an establishment such as the Banyan.

i assure you that you won't be missed William. you'll all have to forgive me as i've been out of circulation for some time & i just don't know where's hip & trendy anymore. i have fond memories of the Banyan & just thought it'd be nice to wine & dine there with a few chosen friends.

I'm not a prolific poster on here; would you hold that against me Mr Harry? The 23rd sounds fine, as I will return from a trip to Hong Kong on the Tuesday.

I would also be looking for a date for the evening, as the driver isn't really my type. But, before you boys get too excited, it takes a lot more than a few glasses of liebfraumilch before I succumb to a guy's charms.

I have to agree with William, that Sirocco is far superior to Vertigo. In fact, most places are superior when it comes to the dining, as I would have had their chef castrated if I owned that restaurant. I only assume that the school dinners at your school were somewhat lacking, Mr Harry. There's still time to aquire taste, so don't get too upset dear.

That really isn't a great meal, but any of the seafood dishes would be fine.

I had thought we'd meet up for an aperitif in the bar, courtesy of MH & myself then into a 4 course dinner (menu to be published later) with German wine provided. After dinner there will be ample opportunity for cigar smoking, dancing & cognac (not necessarily in that order).

The cost of the meal is to be split between us & the after dinner cocktails will be down to each individual/ partner. My generosity knows it's bounds.

I'll have you know that that's considered to be a great night out for the English. But no worries, those who don't want to be part of a unique event needn't. It's just my way of extending the hand of friendship, a little bit of culture might just do you all a little bit of good.
