Melbourne Cricket Ground to be announced as 2015 Cricket World Cup final host
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will this morning announce the Melbourne Cricket Ground as the host of the 2015 Cricket World Cup final.
Australia and New Zealand will host 49 matches over 44 days during February and March 2015.
Both countries were joint-hosts for the 1992 World Cup when the MCG hosted the final which saw Pakistan defeat England.
Along with the MCG, other Australian venues for the 2015 tournament include the Sydney Cricket Ground, Brisbane's Gabba, the WACA in Perth, Adelaide Oval, Manuka Oval in Canberra and Bellerive Oval in Tasmania.
ICC chairman Ralph Waters will announce the tournament venues in Melbourne at 10:00am AEST, while the other Australian venues will each have a launch event today.
The SCG was also in the running to host the final but has been edged out by Melbourne's premier cricket venue.
